Januarys End

Hello Blog Readers

Well, here it is the last day of January already. Time sure flies when you have 4 seasons of weather in a month!

Yesterday winter returned, as I guess it did to the rest of Canada. Winds took down more trees in the area and we lost power here for most of the day.

Today it is clear, sunny, blue sky and cold. I am scheduled to patrol tonight at Hidden Valley, so I am looking forward to a ski although I hope the mercury doesn't drop too drastically.

Deposits are starting to come in, thanks to those of you who have paid. Those who have yet to arrange their deposits, please remember they are due before the end of this month.

Those still looking for a spot for this summer, watch our calendar as it changes constantly with cancellations, people shifting cottages and new bookings. Feel free to send us an Email with the dates and cottage(s) you are looking at and we are happy to put you on a waiting list.

Things happening up this way at the moment: Huntsville Winterfest this weekend, Kearney Dog Sleds next weekend, plus excellent skiing at Hidden Valley.

Looking for a cottage for the Muskoka Tri in June, give us a call. Two cottages are gone already. The May long weekend (Victoria Day) is booked out sorry.

Till next time

John

2009 Calendar

Hi Readers

I thought the Blog was maybe a good place to explain the workings of our calendar and to let those of you who read the Blog know that the it will be the summer of 2009 when we do the "big shift" with the weeks.

In 2009, Labour Day moves forward to September 7, so we will get a 10 week summer and everyones week will move forward by 6 days giving us an extra week at the start.

So those of you, for example, who start their holiday this year on July 12, you will start your week on July 18 in 2009.

It will look this, the first date being this years start date for your week, the second date being your start date for 2009:

  • 28 June 08/4 July 09
  • 5 July 08/11 July 09
  • 12 July 08/18 July 09
  • 19 July 08/25 July 09
  • 26 July 08/1 August 09
  • 2 Aug 08/8 Aug 09
  • 9 Aug 08/15 Aug 09
  • 16 Aug08/22 Aug 09
  • 22 Aug 08/29 Aug 09
  • 29 Aug 08/4 Sep 09
  • Labour Day Weekend for 09: 4 Sep-7 Sep
Hope that clears up any confusion or concerns people have over the calendar.

Regards

John

Summer 2008

Hello Blog Readers

Just an update on the up and coming sumer.

Deposit requests have now gone out to all those who booked their cottage for the Victoria Day Weekend, or a week (or two) in July or August, or Labour Day or the first weekend after Labour Day.

This year, deposits are due by the end of February, rather then the end of January, but PLEASE, if you intend on cancelling your booking or would like to change weeks or cottages, let us know as soon as possible.

Those of you who have not booked, take a look at our vacancy calendar as we still have some spots available fo the summer. If the cottage and/or week is not available, keep checking back as we will update the calendar as soon as there are changes. You can also send us an Email and we are happy to put you on a waiting list.

Muskoka Tri participants & supporters, we usually fill up for the weekend, so give us a call if you would like to book a cottage.

Hope everyone made it through the bizzare weather of the past few days. We got hammered with high winds on Wednesday and a tree or two came down, along with a power line and some minor damage to Cottage #7.

Huntsville is bracing itself for high water as the Muskoka River and the Big East River rises. Even HWY 592 has been closed due to water over the road, so a trip into Huntsville for us is via Emsdale.

Till next time

John

Happy New Year from Algonquin Woods

Hello Readers

Happy New Year and I hope 2008 has started off well for you, your family and friends.

We are all doing fine, the kids back at school today, Louise and I busy putting together the reservation letters for summer 2008.

For those of you who have already booked a cottage with us for this coming spring or summer, you can look for your letters sometime before the end of the week, all going well.

If you already know that you would like to change your booking, please let us know asap as it makes things much easier the sooner we know.

Those of you who would like to join us for the first time this summer, give us a call or send us an Email. If your week and/or preferred cottage is not available, keep an eye on our vacancy calendar as it changes almost daily this time of year.

Till next time

John
