HAPPY CANADA DAY

Hello Readers

Happy Birthday Canada!

Well I must admit the weather has been a bit frustrating these past few days, especially after the fantastic weather of last week. All that said, most days there has been breaks in the showers, the sun comes out and everybody is back into the water etc.. At one point yesterday afternoon every one of our watercraft which includes 2 peddle boats, the canoe, a rowboat, the surf bikes and all 5 kayaks were out at one time!

Weather allowing we'll do the kids scavenger hunt today and a smores roast tonight.

Those of you searching for a last minute holiday, we still have cottages available for next week, Jul 4 - July 11 and according to the forecast the weather is turning for the better come Saturday. We still have 2 and 3 bedroom cottages available for a variety of stays including 7 nights (Jul 4-Jul 11), 6 night (Jul 5-Jul 11) and we will consider 3,4 or 5 night stays as well. Just gives a call for dates and rates etc...

The remainder of July from the 11th is booked out sorry, including Civic Weekend and the first 2 weeks of August are now full as well. August vacancies exist in the weeks of Aug 15, 22 & 29 and there are still 3 spots left for Labour Day Weekend. The week of Aug 15 we have one 3 bedroom lakefront, #1 available due to a cancellation. It is our most popular cottage and for it to be available at any point during July and August is unheard of, so if you are interested now is your chance to grab it!

An update on wildlife sitings around our place: guests and our neighbours have reported seeing a beaver swimming along our shoreline, I have seen a turtle, the other morning I surprised a heron resting on our shore by the dock and it surprised me with its quick takeoff, I came across a deer on a walk last night, every few days or so I find the loon pair cruising around our waterfront, our chipmunk population is increasing after declining 2 years ago and a black bear has also been seen in the area.

Till next time

Vacancy Update June 2009

Hello Readers

People, people, people, there are still some prime spaces available for this coming summer. Usually by now they would be gone and we would be turning requests away, however this year there are still some good openings, so why not take advantage.

Cottages are still available the first week of the school holidays, June 27-July 4, and we will consider shorters stays for that week at this point. We also have openings the week of July 4-11, although that is starting to fill up, then a lakefront cottage is available the week of July 25 and Aug 8. A 3 bedroom is still available for Aug 15 and then we still have a number of openings for Aug 22 and Aug 29, plus 3 spots for Labour Day Weekend.

So, stop procrastinating, and give us a call or send us an Email. Every summer we fill right up and we have many dissapointed people making last minute inquires, so if you want secure yourself a holiday for this summer get in touch with us.

Regards

John

The Loons are back!

Hello Readers

Perhaps they have been back for a while, but it was not until yesterday morning that I awoke to the cry of a loon. Then when I took Harriet and Lucy out for a midday boat ride there they were, cruising along just out from our dock, a pair of loons.

Goodbye May

Hello Readers

Just an update on "goings on" up this way. We had a great start to the season with our usual group who take all 10 cottages for the May Long weekend and then last weekend we had 8 out of 10 cottages filled up with a family from the USA and a large group up to Huntsville for a baseball tournament.

Had my first bear sighting of the season a week ago when I saw one ambling along the grass next to HWY 11 north bound. Have also started seeing deer on Bay Lake Road and last weekend we had a guest tell us that when he awoke in the morning there was a donkey down near our swings!!

We still have plenty of cottages available for the Huntsvillie Tri weekend (June 12-14), so if you are bringing your family up to lend moral support, renting one of our cottages is a great option. We allow a late check out on the Sunday for Tri participants and their families/supporters and our lake is a great place for a pre-event swim.

Summer still sees us with a fantastic selection of dates, something that is unusal for this time of year as by now we are almost always booked right up. So take advantage of the opportunity and secure yourself a wonderful family vacation spot.

Till next time

May, OH Glorious May

Hello Readers

Things are progressing nicely for our spring re-opening this coming weekend. Water is back on in all the cottages, the BIG Spring Clean started today inside the cottages and I am getting on top of all the various chores that crop up after winter.

The 12 and 14ft boats are back in the water and the "old Mercs" came up from the basement, back onto the boats and each started after just 3 pulls!

Things are slowly filling up for summer although usually by now we would be almost fully booked, so those of who have trying to get a place here at Algonquin Woods, now is your chance! And once your in, your in!

Staying at a house keeping resort is actually one of the most economical holidays you can have. The only cheaper alternative is camping. And everyone needs a holiday at some point during the summer (except of course if you run a cottage resort, then you have to wait until winter for a break!). So come on up to our place or any of the other fine resorts that dot the lakes up this way this summer. You will not be dissapointed.

Till next time

May Sunshine

Hello Readers

A lovely day today. The pumphouse is operational again, with the reinstallation of the pump, UV, filter et al....

Had a fantastic day yesterday in Algonquin Park. Took a picnic lunch and hiked the lake of Two Rivers trail with Louise and Harriet. Although we did not see any moose, there has been quite a few sitings according to the notice boards at the West Gate and again at the Visitor Center. The Shop and restaurant is also open at Canoe lake, so we treated ourselves to ice cream cones.

Till next time

May Tidy Up

Hello Readers

Well, the spring tidy up is progressing nicely.

The property is raked from "head to toe", ping pong shelter and table back up, shuffleboard court swept and equipment out, paddle boats back on the dock, tables and chairs out, lifejackets hung, all the watercraft at the waters edge waiting to be launched.......

Next weeks schedule includes getting the water back on, cleaning out gutters, storm windows off and fly screens on....

Till next time
