Hello Blog Readers
Thought I should bring you up to date with winter happenings up this way.
I had a beautiful 5km ski late yesterday afternoon at Arrowhead. Went around Arrowhead Lake, saw no one else on the trail (although there was plenty of activity at the start of the trails), clear sky, sun setting over the hills (and the temp dropping!) and a pure white blanket of undisturbed snow covering the lake.
We are expecting something like 10-15cm of snow over the next day or so, so conditions for winter activities can only get better.
This weekend is Huntsville's annual winterfest which is always a good time. We still have a 3 bedroom cottage available for the weekend if you are interested. A schedule of events is available at:
http://www.huntsville.ca/residents/winterfest.htm
Don't forget there is downhill skiing at Hidden Valley, tubing at Rockridge and cross-country skiing in Algonquin and Arrowhead.
If you are a guest who has booked a cottage for summer 2007 and have not yet paid your deposit, please remember to do so as soon as possible. We get a huge number of inquiries this time of year and so we really need to be able to know what cottages we have available.
Till next time

Winter Acitivity Update
Wow, 2 days in a row. I just thought I should update you on the ongoing improvement in winter happenings.
We had another 3-5cm of the white stuff last night/this morning and I just finished shovelling/snowblowing out the drive etc.
Arrowhead Provincial Park now has 5km of its 33km of cross-country trails open and is reporting fair conditions. Algonquin Park has 27km opens.
Hidden Valley now has 4 lifts operating and 5 runs open and is reporting 3cm of fresh snow last night. They have some excellent deals this winter, including skiing on Thursday nights for only $12.00 and rentals only $12.00!! And don't forget we have 10% discount coupons as well.
More flurries are in the forecast and some cold temps at night, so things are only getting better (winter wise!).
For those of you stuck down in the grey, damp, cold, snowless towns and cities of the "south", come on up and enjoy some winter.

Winter Update From the Woods
Hello Blog Readers
Thought I should bring you up to speed with winter activities up here at Clear Lake. We have snow, yes, probably about 10-15cm at the moment on our property and the lake is frozen over (again!). Expecting another 15-25cm tonight and tomorrow, so things should be looking pretty good for winter happenings.
Hidden Valley is open for downhill skiing with 3 lifts/4 runs in operation (current 18 January). Rock Ridge in Huntsville is open for tubing and Arrowhead is open, but at this point for snowshoeing and hiking only. Algonquin Park has some cross-country trails open last time I checked.
Events for the coming weeks/months include:
If you are looking ahead to Summer, keep an eye on our availability calendar at our website www.algonquinwoods.com .
It changes constantly this time of year (we do our best to keep it as up to date as possible) and so if your week and/or preferred cottage(s) are currently not available, keep checking or ask us about being placed on a waiting list. We do get cancellations, so things could still open up a bit in late Jan/early Feb.
If you have already booked with us and have not yet received your deposit request letter, please let us know as soon as possible. Remember, we really appreciate having all deposits paid by the end of January so we know what we have available to offer to new guests.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE WOODS
Happy New Year to all our readers, returning guests, potential new guests and friends. Hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and New Years Eve.
To say the weather has been bizzare would be an understatement. Yesterday the place was covered in a dusting of snow (enough to at least make it feel seasonal) and we were skating on a fantastic rink I had created on Clear Lake.
Today it is raining and well above zero and over half of our snow cover is gone, yet again! We may get a flurry tonight as the mercury dips to -7c and hopefully that will also mean we will be skating again tomorrow. I drove by Hidden Valley yesterday and thay had 3 runs open, so hats off to Hidden Valley, I was amazed.
We have had guests in both cottages since Christmas Eve and despite the lack of snow they have been enjoying themselves with skating, hiking in Algonquin and Arrowhead and visiting downtown Huntsville.
We'll be sending out our deposit letters soon, so if you already have a cottage booked with us for next summer, look for yours in the mail probably sometime next week. If you haven't booked, give us a call or send us an email. If you have booked and would like to revsie your booking, please let us know that as soon as possible.
All the best for 2007. till next time
