Wooden Boat

I tried to include this in my last post but Blooger wasn't co-operating. It was taken just a few days ago. One of our guests brought it up.

Summer Winding Down

Well, here we are in our final week of summer and it is really hard to believe.

This week we have a family reunion (9 cottages) and one regular guest, then onto a fully booked Labour Day Weekend.

It has been an incredible summer "weather wise" and all of our guests have been just fantastic.

Autumn is really making an appearance now. Leaves are definitely changing colour and starting to fall, the water has cooled off (but it is still a lovely temp for swimming, we swam last year until late Sept.) and there is a change in the air.

I saw 2 deer and a black bear yesterday between here and Kearney. We drive over to Kearney most Saturdays to take the kids to the new candy store. It is their reward for being patient as we ready the cottages for the next round of guests.

People are starting to contact us about summer 2006, so if you missed out on a cottage this year, give us a call or drop us an Email.

We still have plenty of cottages available for this Sept and October, including Thanksgiving, so come up and enjoy what I think is the most beautiful time of the entire year.

Till next time

Summer to Fall

It is a cool 6C at the moment as I write this post, a sure sign that Fall is on its way. But there is not a cloud in the sky, there is a mist on the lake and a pleasant 25c forecast for the day, so our guests are in for an excellent day.

Went out to a Valdy concert last night (part of the Huntsville Festival of the Arts), our first night out without kids for a 1,000 years and it was an excellent show. The new Algonquin Theater in Huntsville is quite an impressive venue.

Fixed the broken paddle boat seats yesterday, so our newer boat now has brand new seat backs.

The house is slowly being transformed and probably about 30% of it is now painted. I'll include a photo when it is done.

And to answer Michelle, I usually draft these around 7am, not 3:45 am as I think it said on my last post. The Blogger Clock is wrong! I'll try and see if I can fix it.

Till next time

Hints of the next season

Well I can't believe it, but you can now see tinges of oranges & yellows on the tops of the trees surrounding Clear Lake! How can Fall be starting! Here we are in week 8, only one more full week, then Labour Day and then the kids are back in school.

We had a busy day yesterday, cleaning the place up after Fridays huge rain. Gulleys cut deep into the beach in several places, the sand play area and volley ball court had been flooded and pine needles in piles every where.

They had an enjoyable week last week, despite slightly cooler temps and of course Fridays deluge. This week is mostly returning guests, including one family who has been coming for over 40 years. It is always fun to get their opinions on the changes we have made over the past year, (new paint job on the cottages, new name, new sign...).

Thanksgiving is beginning to fill ( 2 cottages confirmed and someone else expressing an interest in 3 cottages) so if you would like to spend a weekend in October up here, let us know. Last year, September was fantastic and we were blessed with nicer weather then during the summer.

We have begun the task of painting our house, using the same colours as we used on the cottages but in a different arrangement. Hopefully we will have that done before Labour Day and then we can concentrate again on the cottages in September.

Till next time..

Thinking Ahead to the Fall

Well, we got our first booking for Thanksgiving today and another inquiry, so if you are at all interested in spending Thanksgiving up here with us at Algonquin Woods, I would give us a call sometime in the next few weeks. Cottage #1 our prized 3- bedroom on the lakefront with propane heat is now gone and #2, our most popular 2- bedroom may be gone as well.

Lovely days yesterday & today. Some of our guests went golfing, others went horseback riding just up the road, and of course many just spent the day on the beach.

Had some really nice feedback from a new guest we had up here last week. It is always nice to get Emails from our guests and very rewarding when they tell us what a wonderful time they have had. We have decided we should start a testimonial page on our website, so watch for it in the coming weeks.

Till next time

Week 7, It can't Be!

Well, here we are welcoming our guests for our 7th week of Summer 05. I can not believe how quickly the summer is going.

Last week was another beautiful week weather wise, even with Friday being rained out, but lets face it, we do need to have some rain. "Rain days" though can be a good excuse for our families to go "out and about" and see the area; Algonquin Park and its fantastic visitors centre, Arrowhead for a walk, downtown Huntsville for an icecream, Dorset and the fire tower, Burks Falls.....

Louise and Lucy were in Algonquin Park this past week and saw a moose, in fact a lot of our guest this year, especially in June are seeing moose.

This week is again a mix of new families and returning ones. Next week is mostly returning families and the week before Labour Day Weekend we are hosting a family reunion. Then into Labour Day Weekend and then back to school!!!

Our bear has not returned to the best of my knowledge and I assume he is unable to figure out how to work a sliding door.

I'll enclose a photo Lucy took in Algonquin Park last week on the Spruce Bog Boardwalk.

Till next time

August Underway

Where is the summer going? The weeks are flashing past at a huge rate.

I was just down at the lake for my early morning look and the lake is like glass, crystal clear and not a boat in site. Going to be an absolutely beautiful day.

We have had a bear visit our garbage container the past few nights (according to a very surprised Rob who was throwing out some garbage at 11pm on Friday night). She (the bear) is actually trying to lift the huge heavy lid of our large garbage receptacle, so I have now locked it down and from what I could see this morning, she had no luck last night, so hopefully she will cease paying us a visit.

Last week was another excellent week, with our guests enjoying good weather (despite a day of much needed rain).

Again we had a mix of returning families and new ones join us and everyone enjoyed themselves so much they all re-booked again for next year.

This being our second summer now, we are starting to get to know many of our regular families (those that return every year) and Saturdays find us wishing people could stay longer! (as I am sure they would like to do as well). We are also really enjoying getting to know our new guests and it is very satisfying seeing them enjoy themselves here at Clear Lake.

The next few days are looking fantastic weather wise, lower humidty, clear skies, cooler nights, so our guests should have a magic week. This week we have mostly all "first time families", so it is always interesting to see what friendships develop and what activities they enjoy the most while they are here at Clear Lake.

Till next Blog
